Whew..long week.

Abby had her surgery this past Monday. Everything went very well. She did excellent! She continues to do excellent, and we're on our 3rd post op day. It's supposed to get really nasty between now and Sunday. Although based on the past 4 days, she will fly right through it. I have pictures from pre-op and post-op, I will have to upload later as I'm blogging from work. LOL Abby is at home with Nana.

We got to the hospital Monday at 7:00 a.m.. She was scared but determined to be brave. I explained Saturday and Sunday what they were going to do step by step, minus the OR procedure. lol They gave her a cocktail around 8:00 a.m., and whilst most people find it amusing to see a child "high" or "drunk" it's actually quite heartbreaking. It is kinda funny, but it quickly turns not funny when you remember they are completely confused and scared that they are feeling that way. She was having double vision, she kept grabbing for the wall, and the curtain thinking it was right there, but instead she was grabbing air. She kept saying "there's TWO Handy Manny's!" ROFL! Unfortunately I had to suffer through that for close to 40 minutes before they finally took her back. She was calm...obviously. All the nurses and doctors that came in contact with her absolutely adored her, that made it easier on her too.

The surgery lasted almost 40 minutes. Phillip and I got to back to recovery shortly after, and she was holding her own oxygen mask. (I have a cute picture) The nurse said, she is the best patient I've had in a looong time. She woke with no trouble from anesthesia (most children are combative) and he was trying to put the oxygen on her, she grabbed the mask and said " I can do it". LMAO! He must have asked me and Phillip 2 or 3 times what the secret was to having such a mature 5 1/2 yr. old. I was such a proud mama. We got to her room sometime after 10:00 a.m.. She might have opened her eyes twice since they woke her. She slept until 2:30p.m.. She woke up and asked for some Jello. She ate probably 8 bites, she refused to let me feed her, said she could do it. Then she threw that up, and she requested mac 'n cheese. She ate several bites of that and threw it up. She didn't cry one time. She went back to sleep after requesting waffles for when she woke up. LMAO! They make them very squishy in the hospital.

My dad and his wife came and visited for a little bit. She tried to stay awake, but lost that battle. She never let her trusty Stitch (Lelo & Stitch movie) out of her sight the whole time we were at the hospital. My doctor also gave her a surgery doctor bear that she didn't let leave her sight either. She finally came to for a few hours around 5:00p.m. She was an absolute Angel the entire time. I could not ask for a better behaved child, or one with a better personality, she exceeds anything I could have ever hoped for.

She finally got discharged Tuesday around 10:00 a.m.. She was MORE than ready to go. She was ready to change her clothes (several times) and play babies. I left her with Nana and daddy, and I went to work for the afternoon. The worst days are between the 3-5 day. I requested Thurs. and Fri. off, but ended up taking Wednesday because I was tired, which puts me at work today, and off tomorrow. lol She is drinking well, eating well, and all in all being herself. She had 0 pain meds until yesterday. She had none in the hospital (not including anesthesia). She's a tough cookie. But, her throat is starting to scab and get tight, so I went ahead and started giving it, I don't know when the shit will hit the fan.

All of her neighborhood friends brought her gifts yesterday! It was sooo sweet! Abby was just standing there every time the doorbell rang like "is it my birthday?". lol They all brought coloring books, stamps, markers, puzzles, balloons. So sweet. We have really nice neighbors, and they all love them some Abby.

I wish I could take her swimming this weekend, I know she's itching to. Phillip and I took her to a friend's bbq this past Saturday and she got to swim all day because I knew she wouln't be able to swim for awhile, so she'll be ok till next weekend.

That's all I have for now. :)
